Tarangire, Tanzania

Set on a hilltop with sweeping, uninterrupted views of the African plains, Ilaroi House offers a rare experience of seclusion and quiet serenity. The landscape unfolds in every direction, creating a setting that feels both expansive and deeply private.

The design is shaped by the land itself—responding to the site’s topography with reverence rather than imposition. Curved walls trace the natural contours of the hill, echoing both the organic flow of the terrain and the archetypal forms of African architecture. The house nestles into the apex, appearing to emerge from the landscape rather than rest upon it.
